STORY- Strategic Tactics of Obesity Reduction in Youths In Holmes County, Mississippi, the Community Students Learning Center is making a difference in the lives of youth! Through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP), our S.T.O.R.Y. program provides youth with innovative ways to stay physically fit! This is a highly innovative program funded by the Carol M. White Physical Education Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education and offered through the Community Students Learning Center in Lexington, MS.
S.T.O.R.Y. has truly made a difference in the lives of children in Holmes County. One of the greatest aspects of the program is the state-of-the-art physical fitness equipment it provided to: Goodman Pickens Elementary, Lexington Elementary, S.V. Marshall Elementary, Williams Sullivan Elementary, Mileston Middle School, J.J. McClain Middle, Williams Sullivan Middle, S.V. Marshall High School, J.J. McClain High School, and Williams Sullivan High School.
Physical Education (PE) teachers also use the innovative and highly-sought SPARK curriculum. SPARK stands for Sports Play and Active Recreation for Kids. S.T.O.R.Y. provides SPARK training to all physical education teachers and school nurses in the Holmes County School District.
The program also serves faith-based organizations in the community. These faith-based organizations include Greater Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, and Durant Missionary Baptist Churches. State-of the-art physical fitness equipment is also available at CSLC for community use.
